Sifting through the many emails I get from people and newsletters that I signed up for just to keep up with whatever whenever, I came across this interesting piece of work entitled Tectonic released by Puremagnetik sound designer Micah Frank. For those of you who are interested and/or use Ableton Live to produce music, Puremagnetik is a site worth checking out and subscribing to if you're looking for sample-based instruments integrated into Instrument Racks in Ableton Live. They have a lot of free instrument/sample packs as well as a whole lot more for those who subscribe.

Basically, the concept of the audio for Tectonic comes from the sonifications – the interpretation of data into audio – of earthquakes. The video above goes into much more detail about the whole concept of this project. What intrigues me about this project is the fact that Micah Frank essentially created musical tones from the natural vibrations resulting from plate tectonics. I personally feel that the sounds that come out from these vibrations are how the natural music of the earth would sound like.
