Summer is heating up, were almost into July and right now I got some fresh soul, disco, house, bass. I will start off with a soul mix from Feelin Music (Tall Black Guy is the guest on this mix, it's good to hear some smooth soul). Next up is a deep Bass mix from Hedmuk (what a dope mix this is, great track selection, I prefer to download this one). I got another bass mix from dj-phonetics (this is a very different sound then the last one I just shared, from walking on the moon to juking on the street is what I think of it). Last Sunday, June 17, Goth-Trad
played out a massive set at SMOG Sundays to a very eager and bass-hungry crowd.
His performance at SMOG Sundays in Hollywood at Dim Mak Studios was one of his
stops for his west coast tour of the US. For those of you who haven’t heard of
Goth-Trad, he’s a Japanese dubstep producer who has had several releases out on
Mala’s highly respected bass music label Deep Medi Musik. Goth-Trad’s latest
release was his LP New Epoch on Deep
Medi Musik, which is essentially a very minimalistic yet deep and substantial album
that embodies the Deep Medi vibe. He also made an appearance on Bassweight, a documentary about the origins
and rise of dubstep that I would highly recommend viewing if you want to know
what dubstep is really all about.

French bass music producer Von D was in town for his first LA appearance, and let me tell you, I was pumped that he was going to be atSMOG Sundays. Even though he came on a weekend that a good amount of the LA crowd was in Las Vegas forEDC, that didn't bother me ‘cause that meant more room and bass for me. Von D is underrated with his style – he brings that "sexy" form of bass music with female vocals while also bringing in that dark and deep bass. I use the word “sexy” because of his track "Show Me" – just take a listen to his latest LP "Daydreaming," and you will understand.
All I got to say is this EP is going to be a huge hit this summer, when it's released in July. All the tracks are simply Excellent. If I had to choose what my favorite tracks are on this EP, they would have to be "Ulysses" and "Dark Sunrise". Big ups to Om Unit on this. Enjoy!

It's Wednesday June 20th, and I have lagged it a bit with the daily mixes but just been busy with planning future plans for your all you Dank Radio listeners. Detroit’s Frank Nitt has seen it all, more so than your average ‘keep it real’ MC. He has seen the meteoric rise and untimely death of friend, collaborator and certified hip hop legend J Dilla. He eye-witnessed Common record a platinum album, and Black Thought free-styling in a strip club parking lot. And he now chronicles his first hand experiences in the 48 page memoir The View from the Underground, which comes included in this brand new deluxe casebook edition album, Stadium Music. As Frank Nit puts it; ‘All of my travel, all of my musical influences, and all of my relationships… I talk about love on there, and hardship. I talk about just wanting to be a dope MC.‘ The album features beats and rhymes by Illa J, Que D, Dank, Kid Sublime, Kevin Cofield, Numbe:ra and others, plus a foreword by his personal acquaintance and adult film star Tara Lynn Foxx.” We chat with Frank to get the low down on Stadium Music and everything else Frank Nitt related.
Dank Radio: Can you give us a brief background about yourself, history of Frank N Dank,
and how you hooked up with J D?
Frank Nitt: I've been putting out hip hop since 1998/99 as a member of FnD [Frank N Dank] and I began
my solo career in 2008, I actually met dilla in 1986, we went to middle
school together, so the music side just grew from that.. it wasnt a, I met
a producer and we became friends, my friend became a producer!

Once again Ayomari & TiRon have dropped yet another brand new track and much like their previously released "She Love Me Not" featuring ScHoolboy Q and "Here They Come" it's a banger. Released just a few weeks ago Ayomari & TiRon's new single "Radio" makes you think. The sound is down right bold and even eerie but it compliments the song's message ; Media Dictates What We Know and if we're not careful it can turn us into modern day zombies, no feelings, no thoughts, just following. The omission of social responsibility to be informed, aware and question everything that's spoon fed to us through the media only stands to perpetuate vapid lifestyles and disillusionment. So think of this song as your cootie shot for stupidity. This track is just one off their much anticipated album "HNGRY" set to drop in July. Till then, enjoy this gem of a song, question everything, and stay forever curious.
From Kentucky, Caleb Cornett aka Amtrac is a force to be reckoned with in the future of Electronic music with his unique and creative sound that can grip you on the dance floor. His music video of the track "I'm All Yours" is just a preview of what he has to bring to the table, so that saying Check out his "Came Along" LP down below and listen. I have been following him for awhile and I thought to myself "About a year and he will be on the map", then soon enough on a random night his music video of "I'm All Yours" appeared on AMTV and It makes me feel more better and confident that GOOD Electronic music is still out there and the biggest music outlet in the world (MTV) is slightly progressing at that. When we talk about Hip Hop today the first things that come to mind are; scantily clad women, cuss words, extravagant cars, and oodles of bucko-bucks galore. Hip Hop has somehow transformed from a powerful voice of change to something just short of a pop music - public strip club, and for me personally it's really quite dissapointing. Now if you just so happen to feel the same way, or even divorced Hip Hop because she changed on you, this is a documentary you need to see.
From Nothing to Something ; The Art Of Rap is documentary film directed by Ice-T, that shares the real story and struggle of Hip Hop, it's origins, the new life it gave to spoken word and poetry and it's rise to mass adoption. Set to drop in theaters next week on June 15, The Art of Rap features the story of this movement as told by the legends of Hip Hop themselves like ; Afrika Bambaataa, Bun B, Doug E. Fresh, Snoop Dogg, Rass Kass, KRS-One, MC Lyte, Immortal Technique... and the list goes on and on. With the "Ratchet Movement" on it's way out, there's a chance that Hip Hop / Rap and it's lovers can reconnect to what it was really all about. So for all you NAY-sayers and all those who've divorced Hip Hop, here's a chance to fall back in Love with it, to remind us about the truth behind the music and lyrics, and possibly even spur change within the industry!

I have never been more proud of my friends...everybody pitched in yesterday, some working 9 hours straight, to help put together I.T.S. Music Playgrounds 1-Year Anniversary show. We held it in the middle of downtown Los Angeles at the famous Exchange LA nightclub and were chosen to head a new club night. The vibe was electric and the people were encapsulated in the amazing artwork Dana Troy had worked tirelessly to complete. All I can say is last night was a huge success and it came to be by the hard work of a small dedicated army. To all the homies, to those who came simply to help, to those who stayed to see the night through and to those who turned out to check this event, I Thank you and the I.T.S. family thanks you. It's the first month of summer and the biggest Electronic Music Festival is about to happen this weekend on the west coast (EDC). And today I have the mixes for anyone that is making the trip to the desert and for those who are just sitting back and relaxing.
