Steve Aoki & Laidback Luke feat. Lil Jon - Turbulence [Music Video]

Steve Aoki [Dim Mak] Official | Laidback Luke [Mixmash] Official

I completely forgot that they were filming that night when [e]ccentric and I went down to The Grove to watch Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, and Wild Bill. It could of been the fact that the line outside was incredibly disorganized and it took us about 2 hrs to finally get in. But let's leave those negative thoughts in the past and turn to more enjoyable thoughts of the present. The video below only shows a glimpse of the magnitude of fun that we all experienced that night. Laidback Luke's set was killer and it was then that I realized that I would have to seek out his smaller venue shows. It's at these shows where he really flexes his muscles as a DJ and really digs deep into his crates. I've included a couple bonus goodies from my crates down below as well.

Magnetic Man - Whip My Hair [Live Video]

Magnetic Man: Official | Facebook

Below you will find Skream + Benga + Artwork = Magnetic Man perform Whip My Hair by Willow Smith. This will have to be my third or fourth video of watching them perform "live" with laptops and all. I'm still curious as to who's on which program and which computer is running the time code and leading the session. If anyone can shed some light on this please let us know!

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers [Live Video]

Lykke Li - Official | Facebook | Twitter

You're probably starting to notice a pattern with a handful of my posts. I'm quite fond of stripped down acoustic versions of great songs. To me, the core of any good pop[pop as in popular. ABAB type structure] song is the ability to take away all the bells & whistles and only perform the song with just the vocals and a guitar/piano accompaniment. There's just something about the simplicity that resonates into the soul of the listeners...

Tyler The Creator - Yonkers [Music Video]

Tyler The Creator [Odd Future] : Official

I was going to include this in the post I did for their Jimmy Fallon performance but this music video deserves a post of it's own.

Sound of Stereo - Hurricane Mixtape [Mix & Tour Dates]

Sound of Stereo [Lektroluv Records] : Facebook |Soundcloud | Twitter

Our friends Vincent and Jochen from Sound of Stereo are gearing up for their upcoming release titled, Hurricane EP. It's slated for a March 14th release date and to help us deal with our own impatience, they've compiled their current favorites and provided us with a fun mix. They've sprinkled in a few of their tracks, a few from their friends that have yet to be released, and a few personal favorites of mine (Harvard Bass - Pruno and Siriusmo - Feromonikon). Dank Radio supporters from Australia be ready. Sound of Stereo is set to perform throughout the Future Music Festival 2011.

Odd Future - Sandwitches LIVE on Jimmy Fallon [Live Video]

Odd Future: Official

About a week ago, G1ocks told [e]ccentric and I to check out this group's performance on Jimmy Fallon. I had it all loaded up in 720p but he told me to wait a second and to pull up another video to watch first. The clip was A Tribe Called Quest & Leaders of The New School's performance of Scenario on The Aresenio Hall show from 1992. G1ocks then proceeded to explain who the Leaders of The New School were and to pay close attention to Busta Rhymes' performance. So when we finally watched Tyler, The Creator and Hodgy Beats of Odd Future (OFWGKTA | Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) perform Sandwitches, it all clicked. Do you see the similarities in energy?

Micah Frank : Official | Twitter | Soundcloud

Sifting through the many emails I get from people and newsletters that I signed up for just to keep up with whatever whenever, I came across this interesting piece of work entitled Tectonic released by Puremagnetik sound designer Micah Frank. For those of you who are interested and/or use Ableton Live to produce music, Puremagnetik is a site worth checking out and subscribing to if you're looking for sample-based instruments integrated into Instrument Racks in Ableton Live. They have a lot of free instrument/sample packs as well as a whole lot more for those who subscribe.

Med School Music - New Blood 011 [Album Preview]

Official Release Date (CD + Digital) – March 28, 2011
12" vinyl promos available now! – Juno | Chemical | Redeye

New Blood 011 is the name of the upcoming compilation by Hospital Records' sister label, Med School Music. For those of you who don't know, Med School Music releases a lot of the more experimental and ambient types of bass music, primarily drum & bass, and features artists such as S.P.Y., Icicle, Bop, and Unquote (I featured his remix of Bop's "Enjoy The Moment" on the NYE Dank Radio broadcast) just to name a few.

Last year, they released their first compilation entitled New Blood 010 and the tracks on there are excellent, very enjoyable to listen, very relaxing, and I highly recommend checking it out if you're a fan of atmospheric drum & bass and/or anything different than what you usually listen to.

On the New Blood 011 page, a new track will be available for previewing February 28 and on the 7th, 14th, and 21st of March. The double 12" vinyl promos are available now on Juno Records, Chemical Records, and Redeye Records (links are above) and the CD and digital release will be released on March 28. The vinyl includes 8 tracks, the CD includes 12 tracks, and the digital download includes 16 tracks and a mix. Keep an eye out at the end of next month for this release!

Enjoy!

Kanye West - All of the Lights [Music Video]

Kanye West: Official | Facebook | Twitter

You must live under a rock if you haven't seen the new video for All of the Lights. (Just kidding, I barely saw it a couple of days ago.) Whether its flashing lights, or street lights, Kanye sure loves lights if you haven't noticed. After viewing much of the All-Star Weekend's events, this song has definitely stuck with me. The visuals in the video are sleek and smooth. I can't wait to hear this song bang at Coachella and see Kanye (hopefully Rihanna comes out too) and ALL of the LIGHTS!!!!

Tommie Sunshine - Eyes Towards Summer DJ Mix

Tommie Sunshine : Facebook | Twitter | Soundcloud

Mr. Tommie Sunshine has presented us with another volume of auditory pleasures. His Summer Soundtrack Mix '10 was definitely a good source of dance floor grooves last year and his current Eyes Towards Summer DJ Mix continues the party with more inspirational dance tunes. Here's what he had to say about the mix...
With a winter so harsh as this one has been it was time to set my sights on the oncoming Summer and make a musical representation of what that looks and feels like inside my mind. We are experiencing a wonderful time in music and this is an audio celebration of that time. I treated the last 3 songs as my "end of the night" tracks so imagine this to be me shutting the club down and kick starting the mood for the after hours. - Tommie Sunshine

Siriusmo - Mosaik [Album Stream & Interview]

Siriusmo : Official | Pre Order Mosaik : here

The first time I heard a Siriusmo track was from one of Jack Beat's mixes a while back. The song was High Together and upon learning of who the creator was, I instantly dove deep into the digital realm to search for more from this funky producer. There wasn't a whole lot to find, other than a couple out dated promo shots, an EP released here or there, and zero interviews. The closest thing to an interview would be someone else commenting on how he wasn't interested in touring or performing live. And so I kept on searching for whatever track of his I could find. Finally word was received that he was in the process of making a full length. You wouldn't believe how happy I was to read the news. I continued the search for more information on his upcoming release and this is what I found. Mosaik will be released on February 25th on Monkeytown Records [created by Modeselektor]. You can stream clips from the album below. I've also included the only Interview I've been able to find on him. He invites us into his creative space and talks about his artwork, his music, and why he just doesn't like leaving home....

Beyond Wonderland 2011 [Caterpillar's Garden Line Up Update: Joker & MC Nomad Added]

UK dubstep/grime producer Joker and MC Nomad have been confirmed and added to the already huge line up for the Caterpillar's Garden stage at Beyond Wonderland, which features the devastating subsonic sounds of dubstep and drum & bass. This young producer, in his early 20s, is known for his groovy and melodic tracks. He's been up and coming in the dubstep/grime scene as a producer these past three years with releases on labels such as Tectonic, Hench, Hyperdub, and his very own Kapsize. Check out his hit track "Purple City" below!

Here's what the Beyond Wonderland site had to say about Joker:

The Caterpillars Garden gets the addition of one of today's rising Grime and Dubstep stars. Joker has only been in the spotlight since 2008 but since bursting onto the scene he has released a relentless stream of hits. Artists like Little Boots, Jon Spencer and Simian Mobile Disco have all been more than willing to have their tracks remixed by this tastemaker.

Please join us in welcoming Joker and MC Nomad to the Beyond Wonderland 2011 lineup.

For the rest of the Caterpillar's Garden line up, which includes big names in the drum & bass and dubstep scene like Noisia, Datsik, and Netsky, click here to check it out.

The long awaited release of this massive EP is finally here! The artwork for this EP is just as huge as the tracks that are contained in this release and just as awesome as the artwork for Temjin EP (it's so awesome, I had to post it up just to get your attention!).

Plan B - The Defamation of Strickland Banks [Trailer & Tour Dates]

Plan B : Official | Facebook | Youtube

Not very many artists can change their sound so drastically in a short amount of time. Not very many artists are capable of doing more than their central art form. Not very many artists have the long term vision and/or work ethic needed to create a multidimensional concept album, encompassing everything from story booklets, music videos, and full fledged movie. Below you will find this one of a kind artist, the one who isn't like many. The short film captures Plan B's concept album The Defamation of Strickland Banks [Purchase @ Amazon].

Local Natives - Who Knows Who Cares [Live Video]

Local Natives : Official | Facebook | Twitter | Releases

Just spent the last hour or so watching live videos from La Blogotheque's vimeo page. Awesome concept. Simple and effective. The beauty of their videos is that it strips down our favorite songs down to it's core roots. For most compositions this can be just a simple guitar and vocals, and sometimes it's just vocals and some snaps and claps for percussion. Either way it's music, it's in Paris, it's live music in Paris.

Wolfgang Gartner - North American Tour [Tour Dates]

Wolfgang Gartner [Ultra Records] : Official | Facebook | Twitter

No need for a full introduction on Mr. Wolfgang. We shared his visually enticing and historically thought provoking music video for Illmerica here. Reviewed his "hello 2011" set at Together As One [Go Ventures + Insomniac Events] over here. And in a matter of months he'll be touring North America with show dates spanning Los Angeles, New York, and almost everything in between. When we saw him perform at Avalon he set the record for most attendees in that club. Let's hope that when we see his return to Avalon he not only breaks his record but the fire marshal doesn't... never mind. I'm not going to jinx it. See you at Avalon!

Beyond Wonderland 2011 [Trailer]

Beyond Wonderland [Insomniac Events] : Official | Tickets

If Johnny Depp shows up in his whole Mad Hatter garb I'm going to go bonkers. I wonder if there will be secret underground tunnel entrances for super special and magical ticket holders. Will Alice consume the bottles labeled "DRINK ME" and cake aptly titled "EAT ME". Is there going to be a blue caterpillar on top of a giant mushroom in the Caterpillars Garden smoking a hookah. Do we have to attend the tea party in order for us to get to the Queens Domain? None of these answers are questioned in the official trailer. There is however a yummy audible treat titled Space Junk which accompanies the stellar visuals.

Congorock - Mortal Kombat 9 Liu Kang's Theme

Congorock [Teenage Riot Records] : Official | Facebook | Twitter

"FIGHT!" is what you hear when the song starts as you enter the arena. Right up until the 0:45 mark you're trying to feel out your opponent. You throw a couple high punches here, a low kick there, and you get hit once or twice. The first drop happens and this is where you really lay it down. Special moves and combos are exchanged and unfortunately your opponent wins this round. At 1:38 the second round starts and you're back into your grove but this time everything starts to connect and the other character hasn't been able to block a single attack. The second drop occurs and here you display your mastery as a Shaolin Monk with your Flying Forward Bicycle Kick. The second round is yours and from here on out your opponent has lost all moral and submits to your Shaolin Uppercut fatality. "Lui Kang Wins!"

Infrasonics - Volume 8

Antiserum - The Swarm EP [Purchase: Beatport]

I'm a big fan of anything Rottun Recordings releases, so this one's a treat. Fans of Datsik, Excision, Downlink, and basically anyone who's ever released anything on EX7 or Rottun will enjoy this release.

Danny Byrd - Tonight (feat. Netsky) [Purchase: Juno | Beatport ]

Huge drum and bass banger from an awesome collaboration between Hospital Records artists Danny Byrd and Netsky. I don't know if it's because I'm a sucker for catchy hooks (who isn't?), but this is definitely one I enjoy a lot. It has a very feel good vibe to it and the music video's also pretty damn entertaining. My favorite remix off this release is definitely Cutline's drumstep remix; I just love the beat and the twist that they put on the vocal hook. I think after just a couple listens, you'll be singing along with the chorus and humming that melody.

I was starting to wonder what happened to her but I somehow stumbled onto her twitter page and tweeted her a quick hello. It turns out she's been cranking out some tunes for an upcoming mixtape that's set for release in March. While we wait for her upcoming release to drop you can enjoy the track below titled, Mr. Postman [feat Oseeola . produced by Blunkstreet Music]. Dada Life - White Noise/Red Meat [Music Video]

Dada Life [Dim Mak] : Official | Facebook | Twitter

I wouldn't mind hanging out with Dada Life. Aside from myself, I'm pretty sure everyone here at Dank Radio would be able to interpret their strangeness. And by strangeness, I don't mean any negativity. Quite the opposite actually. What normal[boring] person would think up a crazy plot for a music video that originates in some dudes head while he's riding the escalator and see's a pretty female. The story then involves bopping random people on their head with a banana, more banana beatings, a banana man, banana bash, and a banana bukkake[more like female wrestling]. If you don't believe me, see for yourself...

Beyond Wonderland 2011 [Queens Domain: Line Up]

Beyond Wonderland : Official | Queens Domain | Tickets

For those of you who may have been on the fence about attending this years Beyond Wonderland [Insomniac], the following line up for the Queens Domain might be the kicker to help you make up your mind. Having experienced Kaskade's amazing sets throughout last year he has yet to disappoint me. I witnessed Dirty South mix and match different parts of my favorite songs during last years Coachella and was in awe of the creativity of mixing style. Calvin Harris performed what most described as a near perfect set during last years Hard Haunted Mansion. fabricated gave me the heads up on Funkagenda's background and piano skills and I'm excited to see him for the first time. Adrian Lux's Teenage Crime was in constant iTunes rotation ever since it came out last summer. PeaceTreaty has gone from creating an awesome remix for Laidback Luke, signing with Dim Mak, rocking the main stage at Avalon, and now they're performing at one of Southern California's most treasured massives, Beyond Wonderland. Together with the incredible line up for the Caterpillars Garden, Madhatters Castle, and Chess Village this is beginning to look a lot like an event that you don't want to miss. - Nativity

I love the outer-worldly theme Flying Lotus has been working with lately (See Bilal - Levels & Flying Lotus - Mmmhmm). Also, notice the Ankh that appears throughout the video, how many can you find?

Jack Beats : Facebook | Twitter | Soudcloud

When I first started walking down the path of dance music I was still searching for something to keep me grounded in what I grew up with. I was searching for an artist to bridge the gap between the hip hop/DJ[Turntablist] culture that was always present in daily life[while growing up] and the ever growing 4 on the floor that was becoming more present each day. After spending many early morning/late night hours digital crate digging I discovered Jack Beats.

We shared with you all Fenech-Soler's music video for Demons a couple weeks ago and believe it or not that song is still stuck in my head. It's one of the few tracks that can easily be accessed in my mental play list. It comes in handy during the day hours when I'm stuck in my cubicle job, fighting the urge to check the time every 5 min. hoping that an hour or two has passed. It's during these moments when I wonder what upcoming shows I'll be attending for the weekend. I don't know about you but I love free shows. So much so that I'm sharing info on a show that's happening half way across the world. We're aware of our readers from the UK and we want to make sure we take care of you. We know you're out there. There's no point in me trying to interject my thoughts and beliefs onto this video. But I will say that this video has been released during a very appropriate time in history, especially considering all that is going on in the international community, more specifically, Egypt.

Porter Robinson - Eventvibe Mix [Tour Dates]

Porter Robinson : Facebook | Soundcloud | Twitter

It was a delightful surprise for me to find the majority of his mix comprised of Dubstep tunes. When you really sit down and listen to Porter Robinson's tracks Say My Name or I'm On Fire you can hear the influence of Dubstep in his synth tones. All in all the mix is a high energy sample of what you can expect to hear on his upcoming US Tour.

Mumbai Science - HARD Weekend 2011 mix [Tour Dates]

Mumbai Science [Lektroluv] : Facebook | Soundcloud | Twitter

I've played this mix at least once per day since the day that it was released. That just shows you how much I enjoy it and how addictive my listening habits become when I find something that moves me. The more I hear it the more excited I become for HARD Weekend. Yes, I know it's still a long way from here. But you know, you can never start preparing too early for an event.

The mix starts off with one of my favorites from the scientific duo, Maarten Elen and Jonas Kiesekoms. I first heard Mumbai Science - Gold (Original Mix) during Erol Alkan's set at Hard Haunted Mansion 2010 and bugged every single person I knew until I found out who the song was by[Thank you to the random person on Youtube who shared the info]. I liked the song so much I played it out wherever I DJed but I never told anyone who it was by. I momentarily had a Smeagol kind of "My precious" phase with the song and kept it to myself and hoped that no one would ever find out. Boy was I wrong. None the less, It's great that more and more people are tuning into their songs. Apparently they also have a radio show in their home country. I wonder what other musical gems they share with their listeners.

Infrasonics - Volume 7

If you haven't seen my last post about Beyond Wonderland 2011's bass music stage Caterpillars Garden line up, check it out here! And there's been quite a few releases this week, so let me share with you some of what I came across while browsing around the stores and what not.

Sepalcure – Fleur EP [Purchase: Bleep | Juno | Beatport]

No Think by sepalcure

Big release from these New York based producers on Hotflush Recordings. Very chilled out and deep dubstep tracks, these tracks have a lot of ambient sounds along with dark sounding drums and expressive basslines. I highly suggest this release.

Eddie K, Beezy, Minus / Jakes, D Minds – Serial Killa (D Minds Remix) / Gold Chain [Purchase: Juno | Beatport]

Serial Killa D Minds re edit by D-Style

Here's two massive drum & bass tracks that were released a few days ago on DStyle Records. If you haven't heard the original dubstep version of "Serial Killa", I suggest checking that out too. The D Minds remix of "Serial Killa" is just a drum and bass banger that gets into a drumstep part and you'll just wanna jump up and down while hearing this track. "Gold Chain" is also a massive track worth checking out.

Bibio - Excuses [Music Video]

Bibio [Warp Records] : Official | Facebook | Twitter

As always, UK artists/labels/etc. share their music right when I'm about to call it a night and power down the machines. Last night[technically early morning around 5am] I saw this strange mysterious video and thought, "Hmm, one more song for tonight won't hurt. I'm dead tired and my eyes are starting to burn but I'm still hungry for more." As I sat and feasted I began to experience what could best be described as a visual and audible treat, containing flavors that would entice any and all taste buds yearning for more James Blake, Four Tet, HudMo, and FlyLo. Wow. It's rare that I'm moved to purchase full releases after tasting a sample plate but I'm going to pick this up on March 29th. If you too are still hungry for more you can check out the album sampler here.

Ska Parade 20th Anniversary Tour [Tour Dates]

The Ska Parade : Official | Facebook

Ska music played an important part of my upbringing during my formative High School years. I wasn't around when the 3rd Wave initially hit but it's influence was still prominent in the early 2000s. Days of barre chords and brass horns helped to brighten up dreadful days at school. The first Ska comp I picked up at a record store was Step On It: The Best of The Ska Parade Radio Show and the only reason why I bought it was because Sublime was on it. It introduced me to the likes of The Voodoo Glow Skulls, Ocean 11, and The Skeletones. Later I found out the host of the show, Tazy Phyllipz, was the guy who put in motion Sublime's path onto Kroq and national exposure. I contacted Tazy to see if we could set up an interview but just as I thought, he's a busy man. No worries. Many thanks to Tazy for always providing the best in Ska music and for continuously pushing the advancement of Ska music. If you're looking for a fun show be sure to check out one of the Ska Parade 20th Anniversary Tour Dates if they swing by your town.

Spazzkid - Baby Come Back (Player Cover)

Spazzkid : Official | Facebook | Twitter

I was starting to wonder if Mark had phased out his alter ego Spazzkid for good. In recent conversations he's explained that his main focus has been My Parasol. With music as soothing as My Parasol I couldn't complain, but I missed his Spazzkid expressions. I've been bugging him every so often for any updates and finally the month I didn't pester him my wishes were granted...
The first time I heard the song, I think I was in grade school. I remember the school bus driver rocking this song loud on his radio. I loved it ever since. I have finished working on this song summer last year but somehow it didn’t feel right sharing it. For some reason, I kept delaying to release it. Then last night this song came up on my itunes and I thought, “hey why not”? - Spazzkid
