Vince of Nytehype Entertainment [Feature Interview + Tommie Sunshine Ticket Giveaway]

Nytehype Entertainment : Official | Facebook | Twitter

What do lost keys + Orange County + Donalde Glaude have in common? Normally nothing at all, but on a fine winter evening a series of random events all culminated into me becoming fairly intoxicated and in a good samaritan situation to help out another human being, Vince Do. Due to the hospitality of one local EDM enthusiast / promoter / manager / cool dude, Jordan White, I checked out The Yost Theater out of curiosity. After experiencing Donald Glaude perform a wonderful set Jordan introduced me to Vince who was looking everywhere retracing his steps to find his car keys. We combed the parking lot thrice [cops noticed and thought we were trying to steal a car. seriously?!], walked around the venue twice, and looked everywhere one would normally misplace their keys. We looked everywhere except his jacket pocket. Funny how we always lose things and find them in our pockets. Any hoo I almost called AAA a few times and inadvertently used the time spent walking around searching for the keys to sober myself up. So there goes the origin story of how I met him. Don't you just love origin stories? We'll save stories about when I DJed at two of his club nights for another time. For now we'll continue on with the interview. We're also giving away a pair of tickets to see Tommie Sunshine perform at Show Saturdays at The Yost Theater this Saturday Feb 4th. Information on how to win can be found after the interview.

Nativity: First of all thanks for taking the time to do this interview with us Vince. I know you're busy with 3am guerilla marketing tactics and 5am networking sessions around LA/OC. So before we dive deep into the success of the Drop New Years Eve Party let's start at the beginning. Please introduce yourself.

Vince: Thank you Nativity for choosing to interview me. I am honored and am very impressed with what you guys do.

Nativity: How did Nytehype Entertainment begin?

Vince: Nytehype Entertainment is an electronic music nightlife event production company with roots in Orange County, LA, and Las Vegas, and we’re expanding into other markets such as Phoenix and beyond. It actually began as a LA EDM Event online directory in 2001 but it’s true emergence on the Orange County scene, where it’s deepest roots lie, came in 2006 when DJ Marc Crenshaw (Nytehype) invited me to promote a weekly event at Woody’s Wharf in Newport Beach. Our fantastic success there opened doors that led our company into every major club venue in Orange County and eventually to where we are today, producing dance music concerts/festivals.

Nativity: You currently have a wide array of weekly events spanning many different venues. Can you briefly talk about each one and how they came to be?

Vince: Nytehype currently hosts four weekly events with this company-wide principle in mind: produce events that are unique, hype-worthy, and memorable. Each of our weekly events has own personality and specific crowd it caters to.

2Legit Tuesdays @ Sharkeez Huntington Beach is a 90’s Inspired Night
– DJs play all your favorite songs you used to love from the 90’s and today’s top tracks. 90’s Themed Parties are the most fun

Portrait Thursdays @ Woodys Wharf in Newport Beach is an event about making memories and interacting with others.
- “Pictures are worth a thousand words” and our photographers capture everything that happens and edits the pics through the popular Apple App Instagram, giving each memory some flavor

Static Fridays @ Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa is for the hardcore party animals who love House/Electro/Dubstep/Drum & Bass Music.
- Dress casual so you can rage; Upscale clubs don’t allow you to get as into the music as you can here. We book from local talent to big headliners like DIPLO in a small and intimate setting

Show Saturdays @ Yost Theater in Santa Ana is our big, upscale club weekly featuring some of the biggest names in EDM.
- The venue allows for full-scale entertainment production with aerialists, stunt performers, state of the art sound and lighting including lasers and a large L.E.D. screen for significant guest satisfaction.

In addition to our four weekly events, Nytehype produces a number of special events including our Halloween “Midnight Massacre” and New Years’ “Drop NYE.”

Donalde Glaude @ Show Saturdays @ The Yost Theater

Nativity: A lot of the talent you've showcased spans the various forms of electronic music. You've recently had Mimosa perform at Static Fridays not too long ago. At Show Saturday's at Yost you've had the likes of Felix Cartal of Dim Mak, Kid Sister and Joker's of The Scene of Fool's Gold, Swedish Egil of Power Tools, and Infected Mushroom. What was your first experience with electronic music?

Vince: My first experience with EDM came to me in 2000, my junior year of high school. I played music at Newport Harbor High School to the entire student body during lunch each day and my friend growing up Jordan Spigner (DJ Jordan) forced me to listen to artists such as Lo-Fidelity All Stars, DJ Shadow, James Lavelle, Jungle Brothers, Aphrodite. I really dug their music because it was different than anything else I or anyone else around me had heard and it made me feel like I was on “the in” on something secret, underground, and cool. I started wanting to expose others to it and included it in my song selection for my fellow students. Perhaps this is where my desire to expose the masses to EDM comes from. Later that year, I attended my first electronic music event and first club, and the rest is history.

Nativity: Was there a specific song that got you hooked or maybe even an event somewhere at a local club/rave/massive?

Vince: The first electronic music event I ever attended was B3 Cande’s “How Sweet It Is” in 2000. There were an impressive 32,000 People dancing to the same beat in San Bernardino, CA. It was one of the best nights of my life and I got hooked to the scene ever since then at 16 years old.

Nativity: Now that we've established how things began, let's fast forward and talk about the Drop New Years Eve Party at The Grove. Congratulations on the success of the event! You guys presented an extremely strong representation of what some have said is the who's who to look after in 2012. In addition to a stellar line up you teamed up with Into The Am as well as FOCUS to present the event. How did you guys lock down all of these artists?

Vince: Thank you for the congratulations. DROP NYE was a huge success, pulling almost 1700 people to this first annual event. Through strategic partnerships with other promoters and booking agents, we were able to book internationally recognized EDM Producers such as Bart B More, DJ R3Hab, Nicky Romero, Nic Fanculli, and Mark Farina

New Years’ “Drop NYE 2012” @ Grove of Anaheim

Nativity: In addition to providing a buffet of top notch talent you've also rounded up a few local gems as well. Can you tell us about the artist who performed at The Parlor and Patio stages?

Vince: I will just answer this question about the artists we booked for Nytehype’s Parlor Stage at Drop NYE. Nytehype manages a roster of DJs and two of our DJs DragonXL (Vegas) and Marc Crenshaw were showcased among some of the best House DJs in their respective markets: Michael James (AZ), Phillip Dixon (AK), Dropset (San Diego), as well as other OC favorites DJs Chaw and JTM. All performed great sets.

Nativity: With the continued growth over the past few years, where do you see Nytehype in the following year? 3 years? 5 years?

Vince: In 2012, Nytehype will be maintaining its stronghold in Orange County/LA nightlife while also expanding further into Las Vegas, Arizona, and other areas we cannot disclose yet, while taking it up many notches with bigger venues and bigger talent. In three years we will be producing 5,000+ person shows and in five years, our DJs will be booked off-the-coast and we will be producing events in geographic locations we are not even thinking about yet this year.

Nativity: Will you continue to focus on artists from the electronic music realm or will you branch out into other genres?

Vince: Despite having a history of hosting a variety of events with many genres of music, Nytehype now only accepts offers to produce EDM events. We intend to grow directly with electronic music as it grows and help it grow by exposing crowds to it.

Nativity: What's the best way to contact you if someone wants to be involved with Nytehype? Aside from maybe performing or promoting are there other ways to be involved?

Vince: Please contact us through our website www.nytehype.com or come to any of our events and ask for a Nytehype Teammate and introduce yourself. Don’t be shy, we love our fans. Aside from performing or promoting, we accept a limited amount of interns per year. We are always open-minded toward sponsors.

Nativity: New Years resolution(s) for 2012?

Vince: Eliminate all negative people out of my life, enter new markets, take The Nytehype DJs management company to the next level, standardize the company more, and seize new venues. Oh and to sleep less.

Nativity: Thanks again for doing the interview! Is there anything else you'd like to share with your fans + family + supporters? Maybe a hint at any upcoming headliners for the new year.

Vince: Yes, this is all not possible without our family, friends, and fans. It is your smiles that keeps us doing what we do. As we continue to grow, we are dedicated to delivering you that much better of a time with bigger acts, venues, production, and entertainment. If you are as into spreading love for electronic music as we are or more, please visit nytehype.com | Facebook | Twitter. Thank you so much.
