Purchase: Bleep (digital+vinyl) | Redeye Records | Chemical Records
(available only until February 26, 2012)
I remember seeing this mind blowing band a while ago at the Glass House in Pomona, CA and being amazed with their whole entire production. The music was excellent despite the technical difficulties they had, and the visuals, especially those of the guest vocalists singing to the audience, were basically a sight to see. Anyways, if you haven't heard Battles' latest album, Gloss Drop, I highly suggest you pick it up if you're into, and not limited to, anything like indie rock or math rock. I've been a huge fan of experimental math rock type of bands, so seeing and listening to Battles basically blew my mind, and still continues to. And also being a huge fan of all kinds of electronic music, I was pretty damn excited to hear about the Dross Glop series they were putting out, which is a collection of remixes released over four 12" releases (also available in MP3 and FLAC on Bleep.com).
The Shabazz Palaces remix of "White Electric"
Dross Glop 1 had house producer Gui Boratto remixing "Wall Street" (which is honestly my favorite track off Gloss Drop) and techno producer The Field remixing Sweetie & Shag. This release has The Alchemist doing a big beat sounding remix of the huge track "Futura," Shabazz Palaces turned "White Electric" into a laid back hip hop beat with 808 sounding drums in addition to adding vocals to the track, and lastly, Kode 9 made a UK funky-esque remix of the LP's epic opener "Africastle." Details of the last two releases of the series haven't been announced yet, but there is a pre-order option open until February 26 on Bleep that allows you to subscribe to the Dross Glop releases and basically ships the vinyls as they are released and gives you access to an instant MP3 or FLAC download. You can check out that pre-order option here.
