Tommie Sunshine at The Yost Theater 2/4/12 [Concert Review]

yosttheater | showsaturdays

Well to start off i would like to thank nytehype for their hospitality for the night. So let's get to it. The Yost itself is just an awesome venue from inside and out. This was actually my first time visiting this venue, I have been hearing a lot of good things about it. It definitely lived up to it's hype, the stage setup was just perfect, huge led screen in the background, sound system was excellent, you could even enjoy the concert from the bar area without "dancers" bumping into you. If you live in the OC, even LA area, I would def take a drive down to Santa Ana to check it out. Here is a little preview of what Show Saturdays is about.

TommieSunshine sure did set the tone for how the vibe was at the Yost. My good buddy of mine and contest winner Aaron G. pretty much said it best about tommie sunshine's DJ set...
"Tommie Sunshine's performance at the Yost was a run of the mill bangin' electro set. I was really looking forward to hearing his grimey tracks, yet all i heard was a bunch of popular remixes. Don't get me wrong, i was dancing like an idiot and feelin' the grooves; yet i expected more from my first ray of sunshine. The crowd was also feeling Tommie but probably because they could sing along with the track as it went: "I WORK OUTTTTTT." Speaking of the crowd, I am reluctant to say the Yost is riddled with pilled-up nubiles begging to hear "Levels" by Avicii again and again...and again. I was hoping Tommie Sunshine would grace us with some funky NYC jams, but it just looked all too familiar".

Overall great venue, very good staffing, i even saw some kettle corn for sell, so if you need to sober up definitely buy some it looked pretty DANK. As far as show Saturdays, i would def work on promotion because the Yost is stacked with talent Tuesday thru Sunday. Hope the review was DANK enough for your time. [Nativity's Note] Just wanted to interject that Tommie Sunshine is a breathe of fresh air from the usual party pari paritaim producer/djs that have become the norm. Yes, dance music is supposed to be fun and yes, life is short so let's be positive and make the most of the brevity of life's existence. BUT, Mr. Sunshine does bring balance to the force w/ his flowing political and social commentary through Facebook | Twitter, which is in all honesty, purely awesome. I look forward to experiencing a DJ set from the man himself as I know his vast history of all forms of music is sure to shine through his set.
