Snowball Music Festival 2013 [Line Up + Upcoming Event + Tickets On Sale]

I've never heard of Snowball Music Festival [Official] until recently, but with a line up containing the likes of Pretty Lights + Kendrick Lamar + Portugal The Man + Flying Lotus + Delta Spirit + Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs you can't help but take notice. The festival occurs in Winter Park Colorado during the March 8-10th weekend. For those of you looking for new, different, adventurous surroundings to go with you musical meditations you might want to look into Snowball. You can get your tickets here.

We've been spinning a few of the Captain Murphy tracks over the past couple episodes of Dank Radio.  It's a VERY interesting concept album/movie.  G1ockz introduced it to us many months ago and we had a few ideas of who it may have been. If you've been living in a stasis pod lately and have barely woken up to the new age of 2013 and are wondering who the f)(ck Captain Murphy is, have no fear. It's none other than godfather of the LA beat scene, Flying Lotus. I can only guess the concept of this album/video originated on a strange DMT trip that was later influenced on a binge of 1980s and 1990s television. Whatever his muse may have been, it's definitely a trip to take once or twice or thrice. Beware if you are a bit queazy and if you are viewing this at work later this week. I would wait until you're on your 1hr lunch break and on your iPad to view it. Don't say we didn't warn you. Seat belts please...

Five hours ago or so I was sipping on some coffee getting ready to handle some Dank Radio emails and had an extreme hunger for something new and fresh. I've already went through all the latest posts from all the Dank Radio contributors and was still a tad bit hungry. So I turned to the hommies over at I.T.S. Music Playground Facebook Group to see what they had. Here's where I discovered Girrafage's track below, LUV. It definitely hit the spot and to my amazement and further internet search I discovered that he's going to be performing this Thursday @ The Echoplex for a FYF Fest event [More Info|Tix]. Would love to head up to the Bay for the Saturday installment of the festival. Chromeo always puts on a great show while Flylo always hits the spot in more ways then one can imagine. We had the misfortune of missing Death From Above 1979 at Coachella this year. It would be nice to see them before they disband once again[or will they continue their string of spontaneous festival dates throughout this year?]. Sets by Battles and Aloe Blacc would service all those with a varying hunger which spans the scope of intricate musical work all the way down to that simple soulful music that shakes your bones. I saw Flying Lotus share this video on his Facebook & Twitter today. Ironically, I was already listening to the New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) CD on the way home from school. This is actually one of my favorite songs on the CD and i'm excited to see it come to life. I love the outer-worldly theme Flying Lotus has been working with lately (See Bilal - Levels & Flying Lotus - Mmmhmm). Also, notice the Ankh that appears throughout the video, how many can you find?

As always, UK artists/labels/etc. share their music right when I'm about to call it a night and power down the machines. Last night[technically early morning around 5am] I saw this strange mysterious video and thought, "Hmm, one more song for tonight won't hurt. I'm dead tired and my eyes are starting to burn but I'm still hungry for more." As I sat and feasted I began to experience what could best be described as a visual and audible treat, containing flavors that would entice any and all taste buds yearning for more James Blake, Four Tet, HudMo, and FlyLo. Wow. It's rare that I'm moved to purchase full releases after tasting a sample plate but I'm going to pick this up on March 29th. Well VTech premiered Bilal's music video for Levels this morning and after watching it a few times I can't wait to share with you all this visually stunning piece of art. Here's what FlyLo has to say about the video...

“I originally wanted to keep visual themes with another video from my last LP called ‘mmhmm’ off of my last album. It featured Thundercat as an intergalactic bass player in a super strange world created by ‘Special Problems’. Since Thundercat was part of this song, I thought it could be fun to continue the visual style and feel of this space opera. In the end you have this crazy video made of so much mixed media, geek dreams and lots of love.”
