No Doubt - Push And Shove on Jimmy Kimmel [Live Video]

No Doubt [Official | Facebook] is one of our personal favorites. They're local. They're fun. They still skank on stage! Did we mention they grew up playing shows w/ Sublime? Their latest album Push and Shove [purchase @ iTunes] has been in the car rotation since it came out and it's title track Push And Show is one of my favorite curve balls to throw on a dance floor. It has all the fun Diplo/Major Lazer elements all rolled into the trademark No Doubt sound. Click below to check out their Jimmy Kimmel performance.

Major Lazer - Get Free feat. Amber (of Dirty Projectors) [Music Video + Free Download]

Major Lazer: Official | Facebook | Twitter

Major Lazer is back and teamed up with Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors to deliver some beautiful soundscapes and heavy lyrics that immediately give me flashbacks to Coachella 2010. Major Lazer and Dirty Projectors where highlights for me that magical/inspirational weekend, especially Dirty Projectors who helped my mind grow exponentially in all directions. Keep an eye out for officially release dates for Major Lazer album and tour and go here for Dirty Projects summer tour schedule. Big ups to our long lost Dank Radio comrade D$ for putting me up on this one, its definitely a collective dream come true for these artist to come together and make the highest quality of dope.  Get the free download of the track plus a remix here.

placeholder. - Don't U Know

placeholder. : Twitter | Soundcloud

Usually I click on tracks that my favorite producers/artists/djs post on facebook/twitter and usually 75% of the time they're really good, 50% good enough for me to use in my dj sets, 25% so good that I'm tempted to hoard the track for my own personal enjoyment. The track below fits in the top 25% of songs that I find. I was really really really tempted to keep this a secret, but I reminded myself of when I 'discovered' James Blake's CMYK through one of Diplo's post a while ago. I couldn't contain the excitement and I had to share it with any/every one. The track below is one of those. So sexxxi. So groovy. So I had to share it.

Diplo [Mad Decent] Sirius XM Blow Your Head 9

"Sticky K's Persian Algebra has been a secret weapon within the moombahton elite ever since it appeared on Diplo's Blow Your Head mix back in September. Twisting persian melodies over vocal chants and a rolling moombahton beat, Sticky K creates a global dance floor banger. Having released 2 EP's on Switch's label Dubsided and a ton of remixes under his belt, look out for Sticky K to take over 2012." - Mad Decent

Infrasonics - Volume 9

Reso – Valken EP [Purchase: Civil Music store (Vinyl, MP3, FLAC) | Beatport (M4A, MP3, WAV)]

Reso - Valken EP Preview (CIV017 OUT FEB2011 12"/DWNLD) by Reso

The long awaited release of this massive EP is finally here! It's been over a year since Reso's last major release on Civil Music with the Temjin EP which contained "Otacon" and "Armored Core", two very massive dubstep bangers (listen here if you haven't heard it yet!). The artwork for this EP is just as huge as the tracks that are contained in this release and just as awesome as the artwork for Temjin EP (it's so awesome, I had to post it up just to get your attention!).

Sleigh Bells - Tell Em (Diplo Remix)

Sleigh Bells : Official | Facebook | Twitter

You just gotta love being an insomniac sometimes. Key word in the sentence is "sometimes". Lack of sleep + Refreshing twitter feed = Diplo's RT. I would attempt to describe Diplo's remix of Sleigh Bell's track Tell Em but the man himself has taken the liberty to express in great detail how the song came to be...

"Derek from sleigh bellz and me have matching florida tattoos and we both are from shitty parts of broward county // & their last album was one of the sickest of '10 .. its soo sick, its gave me a stomach ache .. half lyrnyrd skinnard half bangladesh half man half alligator.. . me and derek and alexis are bros and sis for life. in fact i like sleigh bells so much .. me and switch was in studio in nyc tryin to make tracks with derek and beyonce last week after we played her team their album .. dunno if we gonna manage to finish but was good times. I started this mix for them like a year ago but it took derek about 6 months to send stems so it was kinda in remix limbo but i really wanted to get it out to u guys cause i think the bass and the drums sounds nice and u can play it at your next party." by Diplo

James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream [Live Video]

James Blake: Official | Facebook | Youtube

We first shared the amazing music by James Blake with you all back in April of 2010. Through the random tweets of Diplo and my usual cases of insomnia I discovered the uniqueness of his music. His originality hasn't slowed down a bit and he's further pushing how one can progress in sound expression. Those not familiar will be surprised to know he started off with intentions to create dubstep but kept on scrapping sounds that weren't original to him.

Below you will find a beautiful performance of The Wilhelm Scream first heard and shared with the world on BBC Radio 1. It's the second track of his upcoming debut self titled release which will be released later this year on ATLAS/A&M. You can pre-order the album here. Press play and enjoy...

[Concert Review] - Abstract Festival presented by Reset Events

We applaud everyone at Reset Events for throwing Abstract Festival, It was a great event! Every effort was made to present a stellar event to the dance music fans of San Diego. Venue was great. Production was visually stunning. Sound was an audiophile’s heaven. People were friendly. Staff was very helpful. All in all Reset Events is on it's way to becoming the premiere destination for San Diego massives.

During our stroll around the San Diego Sports Arena we met a handful of locals who spoke highly of Reset Events. They described the fun they had at the previous Reset SD event and expressed the joys of having their favorite artists come to their own town to perform.

After a brief round of the San Diego Sports Arena we settled at the Main Stage/Out of the Box area to check out Skrillex's set. This being the second time we've seen him perform live, we have to say he's really growing into his new role as a producer/DJ. For those not familiar with Skrillex he was the front man of the band From First To Last (Epitaph Records) and for the past couple years has been spinning around the Los Angeles area getting his name out. Even with technical audio difficulties he played a solid set that got the crowd going.

Up next was the former Brit now turned LA native, Rusko (Mad Decent Records). It didn't take long for the crowd to burst in energy as he dove straight into the depths of the lower frequencies. His set included all of our favorites from his latest release, O.M.G.! (Woo Boost, Kumon Kumon, Scarewear, Raver's Spesh, You're On My Mind Baby, My Mouth) along with older Dubsteper/Dubstepah flavors (Cockney Thug, Jahova, Skream's Dutch Flowers (Rusko Trial Inna Babylon Mix)). I've never seen such a diverse set of dance moves to any one artist's set. I swear I saw everything from Jersey Shore fist pumps, Melbourne shuffles, grooving, grinding, slow dancing, daggering, and a mosh pit.

Rusko definitely killed it and it was clear that at this moment the party had really begun. He was having such a blast of a time he decided to share a new track. We'll call this track "I'm Going Insane" for now and let me tell you the crowd went 4lokos to this track.

"Major, Lazer, Major, Lazer, Major, Lazer!!!" is what the crowd chanted as Diplo, Skerrit Bwoy, and the rest of the Major Lazer crew took the stage. It was clear to everyone in the arena that a dancehall party was about to go down. Using tracks like Barrington Levy - Murderer, Swedish House Mafia - One, Laidback Luke/Steve Angello - Be, Ace Of Base - All That She Wants, Diplo proves you don't need to stick to one genre to get the crowd moving. Everything expected from a Major Lazer party was present but there was something different that night. I suspect it was the energy from the crowd. Eccentric and I saw Major Lazer perform at Avalon the night before and the performances were like day and night. Major Lazer definitely brought the party to San Diego and they didn't let the line go slack for the whole hour and a half performance. Skerrit Bwoy was able to do his trademark ladder jump to dagger on the floor with female from the LAzer crew. Speaking of daggering, there was plenty of daggering going on between the LAzer crew and random audience members. We at Dank Radio love audience participation and were very pleased to see plenty of if going on during their set. Not only did the audience participate during the usual ladies get on the stage and party with us for a couple songs bit, but they were even receptive to when security cut the music and said they wouldn't allow them to continue unless they got off the stage. The energy dipped for a moment during this transition but it was quickly brought up and kept constant throughout the remainder of their performance. Diplo finished strong with a new Major Lazer track and shared his thanks by sprays of Champagne and throwing a handful of free Major Lazer T-shirts into the crowd.

We caught the beginning of the Designer Drugs set which started with my favorite DD track, Drop Down and stayed for a few songs until they played Riot. Unfortunately we had to leave early to make the trek back up north to Long Beach and couldn't stay for their whole performance.

As stated above we were very happy about Abstract Festival but there are no concert experiences that are free from error or dissatisfaction. One major gripe that we had that was shared by many in the Arena was when buying a $5.00 bottle of water we weren't allowed to keep the bottle caps. First off, paying $5.00 is pretty rough in this economy. Yes we know the Sports Arena only had two scheduled events for the month of September and you need to pay the bills but when the customer pays for water at that steep of a price we expect to keep the bottle cap. We figured the reason why they did this was to make sure the kids wouldn't run to the water fountains and refill their bottles but they still did. We also saw 3 different people slip and fall from the slippery concert floor at different areas of the arena. If that isn't a liability or a lawsuit waiting to happen I don't know what is. End of complaint.

Thank you Reset and thank you San Diego for being great hosts! We look forward to attending your future events and more specifically Radius, which is set to go off March of 2011.

M.I.A. - Born Free Video NSFW

Director : Romain Gavras
Director of Photography : André Chemetoff
Producer : Mourad Belkeddar
Production company : elnino.tv
Executive Production : Gaetan Rousseau / Paradoxal
Special thanks to Lana & Melissa from The Director's Bureau

As you can see from the video M.I.A. is making a clear statement against injustices committed around the globe. She has been pretty outspoken about her thoughts on her native country of Sri Lanka and explains how "music now should be like a sonic message. You want to really feel it, internally. The police use sound cannons at public protests that explode people’s inside with a single note - human beings have to come up with the opposite of that." [via] For the curious locals, half of the video is shot in Los Angeles around the warehouse district by the 101 Freeway.

For all the producer heads/music nerds a clearer picture of how the track came to by was provided by Diplo's Mad Deccent site:

"It was a royal mess of all our good buds- Switch, John Hill, and Diplo plus Iggor Cavalera (1/2 Mixhell, ex-Sepultura)! All those dudes in a room, a generous sample of Suicide, sick sick drumming from Iggor (and here's another tidbit for u - it was recorded on POPO's shitty ass drumset at the mausoleum!) --- and you got it."

M.I.A. - Born Free (Stream)

See you at HARD LA: M.I.A!

James Blake - CMYK

James Blake - CMYK EP out May 31st [R&S Records]
1. CMYK
2. Footnotes
3. I'll Stay
4. Postpone

Wow. That's all I could say the first time I let CMYK by James Blake play out. Major thank you to Diplo for tweeting about this. (I'm not going to take credit for finding this, no sir.) Anyway, what's not to like about this track? the creative use of samples? the soulful groove? the thick synth lines? If you're looking something along the lines of FlyLo to groove to, then look no further. I don't know what they're feeding these creative minds on the other side of the pond but whatever it is please give them some more.

James Blake - CMYK by Funkism Soundcloud
