Cypress Hill SmokeOut Festival 2012 [Concert Review]

SmokeOut festival a full day of celebrating music and that magical herb that cures all ailments. This was my first trip to the festival but not to the NOS center so I already expected the traffic which gave me the perfect opportunity to mentally prepare for the event. What i didn't expect was the ease of finding parking and effecientcy at the gate that led to the Buddah Garden. I was in line for about 5 minutes before I knew it I was inside the garden surrounded by an eclectic crowd of smokers sitting in hammocks, couches, and lawn chairs rolling and packing various devices. After spending some time in the smokers paradise trading pleasantries I made my way into the festival. I was pretty late and missed alot of the acts i wanted to see like Mobb Deep Fashawn and Currency but I was still excited to see Daedelus and Korn.

Greeting and Salutations, welcome to what i like to call "Paving the way to Paid Dues."As all of you may or may not know Paid Dues is an independent Hip Hop festival hosted by the artist Murs 3:16 in association with Guerilla Union. Paid Dues has been happening every year since March of 2006 and it only proves to get bigger, better, and badder as the years progress. This years full line-up has been announced and with 50 hip hop artists split between three stages, it will be a full fledged heartbreak if you miss it. It's only a two month waiting game till the much anticipated show and in honor of what promises to be one of the best Paid Dues yet, i have been bestowed the great honor of high lighting these awe-inspiring artists whose musical prowess' have Paved the way to their imminent success and the coveted Paid Dues line up. For the first edition of Paving the Way to Paid Dues we feature artist, producer, and emcee; Curtiss King.

He's a local Los Angeles native that's sculpted the various influences of life and music from our greater city and created his own marble musical masterpiece. Check out the lovely visual aids created and provided by Miles Evert Productions aka MEP. I've seen some of his work in the past and it is definitely visually stimulating. Rusko's Cali Anthem was one of the first tracks of his aside from Cockney Thug that I really enjoyed. When he first moved to LA we embraced him with open arms and he interpreted one of our usual party favorites into a bass driven anthem we all loved instantly. Heads up to all the locals from LA/OC/LB, Rusko's playing at Smokeout Festival on March 3rd, which is quickly approaching. So be sure to get your tickets here. For those of you who may have been on the fence about attending this years Beyond Wonderland [Insomniac], the following line up for the Queens Domain might be the kicker to help you make up your mind. Having experienced Kaskade's amazing sets throughout last year he has yet to disappoint me. I witnessed Dirty South mix and match different parts of my favorite songs during last years Coachella and was in awe of the creativity of mixing style. Calvin Harris performed what most described as a near perfect set during last years Hard Haunted Mansion. fabricated gave me the heads up on Funkagenda's background and piano skills and I'm excited to see him for the first time. Adrian Lux's Teenage Crime was in constant iTunes rotation ever since it came out last summer. PeaceTreaty has gone from creating an awesome remix for Laidback Luke, signing with Dim Mak, rocking the main stage at Avalon, and now they're performing at one of Southern California's most treasured massives, Beyond Wonderland. Together with the incredible line up for the Caterpillars Garden, Madhatters Castle, and Chess Village this is beginning to look a lot like an event that you don't want to miss. - Nativity
