Moomahton Forever. Or how I should say for eva eva and eva eva. With the rollercoaster rises and falls of certain sub genres one wondered,  "What happened to Moombahton? Everyone's playing trap/trap rave/etc!?" DJ Craze is here to save the day. He's compiled an enjoyable plethora of moombah ranging from your bleeps and blops you're familiar with to even more techno darker reverbery moombahton vibes. Eccentric, Fabricated, G1ockz, and I headed back down to Santa Ana's The Observatory to experience another wonderful SMOG event [many thanks to Drew and the whole SMOG crew for their continued support + hospitality]. This time they partnered up with the one and only GetDarker. It was the first website I ever went to see Nero do a Drum & Bass dj set as well as Skream spin a set on a pair of Technics 1200s. GetDarker was celebrating the release of their compilation This Is Dubstep 2012 [purchase at iTunes | Amazon] and decided to join us here in Southern California for a proper party. Speaking of parties, after an extremely fun and eventful time with Skream + 12th Planet + Flinch we were really looking forward to seeing Skream's other half Benga. In addition to Benga's beats we were in store for the vocally stunning Katy B, multiple DMC champion turntablist and Slow Roast Records head honcho DJ Craze, and the creator of GetDarker himself, Darkside. I remember a couple months ago DJ Craze was in town for Expansion and I saw somewhere online that he was doing a video/podcast for Knocksteady. After seeing him live later on that evening at Expansion I totally forgot about the video he did. Low and behold insomnia + the internet + youtube = memory jump. A-Trak - Dirty South Dance 2

A-Trak[Fool's Gold] just released his follow up to Dirty South Dance titled Dirty South Dance 2[via Pigeons & Planes]. To be completely honest I'm not a big fan of the recent mash-ups. If it's a mash-up it better be by 2 Many DJ's or something done with an instrumental vinyl on one turntable and an a capella track on the other turntable. Sure there have been a couple tracks that were pretty cool but those are few in number. Luckily, right from the get go I was drawn into this mix. What better way to start a mix then with Claude VonStroke's song Vocal Chords. He keeps his skratches relevant and necessary just like a master axe shredder filling in the spaces of a song with a few phrases of finger tapping here and a soulful bend of a string there. The EDM feel keeps you dancing and this is no surprise with the inclusion of Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars, Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Track Remix), DJ Zinc - Blunt Edge, and Joker - Tron. Another track to note is DJ Craze's remix. I wonder if this is a sign of future productions by DJ Craze and maybe a more production type work with DJ Klever. Deep down inside I wish for a DJ Craze/DJ Klever battle with Plus One/Beni G (Jack Beats). Any hoo, stream/download the mixtape below. It's surely going to be in my regular rotation for the next couple months.
