Nero: Official | Facebook | Twitter | Youtube
I'm more than certain I've explained my appreciation for this amazing production/dj duo signed to MTA Records, Nero. But we've been getting a surge of new readers from across the globe so I'll re-hash it briefly. I actually thought Nero was just one dude when first heard of them. The track was Innocence. I don't remember where it was or who shared the music video with me, but at the time it was the coolest thing I've seen. Being a long time fan of Japanese Anime and Sci Fi films/concepts it was something that I've always wanted to do. Something I will probably do in the future to help explain my own music. But these guys beat me to it.
Digging a little deeper into their music catalog and their dj history I learned that before they created dubstep they made and played Drum & Bass. My favorite D&B tracks of theirs would be Act Like You Know and Dick Tracy VIP. Electron, the B Side to their Innocence release is also a personal favorite that I like to play out whenever the opportunity. When they released their BBC Radio One Essential Mix I knew they were going to take things further into the future. It was more of a produced mix and originally I was a bit put off by it. About 45 minutes into my first listen I stopped carrying about how they created the mix and focused more on the track selection. I can say a good number of 2011 dubstep bangers were made aware to me during this mix. Their Crush On You remix along with hearing Bass Cannon for the first time was mind bending. The overall dynamics of the mix was amazing. It was like a 2 hour long orchestral piece.
After months and months of waiting they finally released their debut album, Welcome Reality [Purchase @ iTunes | beatport] . Some say the creation of a flowing album is a dying art form. People have grown accustomed to listening to bits of tunes that are great on their own, but don't necessarily work well in succession. To start off slow and to build up the energy and later give breaks between the peaks and valleys of the music listeners album experience has been lost. With Welcome Reality my doubts on today's album art form have been shattered. Greater musical concepts and stories are back. So much so that Nero took it up a couple notches and integrated their overall futuristic story within everything from the music, videos, artwork, persona, stage, website, and more. Between me and you Nero is one of those artists I can go on and on about. In my eyes they're truly something else so I'll just let you listen to their music and decide for yourself.
