LBCK [Feature Interview + Tour Dates]

LBCK: Facebook | Soundcloud | Twitter

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to interview another group of locally based talented artists who've ventured far into international lands. It was during the dreaded finals week and we were lucky that they had just enough time to take a break from their busy schedule and update us on what's in store post college life. [Tune in during this weekends LIVE broadcast of Dank Radio for a special 420 Mix by LBCK | Saturday June 4th KPFK 90.7FM 4am-6am PST | Streaming Worldwide @ KPFK.ORG] Europe, pranks, an upcoming release titled Instant Party EP, and more are in store with LBCK [A. Noblé & Luigi III]...

Nativity: First off, thanks for taking the time to do this Interview. I know it's finals week and it's pretty much crunch time for all those focused on graduating. To start off please introduce yourself to our readers. Feel free to keep the LBCK explanation brief. I know you guys have had to explain that quite a few times [here|here].

A. Noblé: We are a house duo from Long Beach, our name stands for Long Beach City Kids, and yeah, we have to explain it all the time because it turns out that it's actually a gang acronym around here. Our fans have had to find out the hard way.

Nativity: As much as I have a feeling you'll be sick of thinking about school, I'm curious, what are you guys studying at CSULB? Robbie said you guys are in the final stretch and are about to graduate. Congrats by the way!

A. Noblé: Both of us have just graduated, so now we have heaps more time to spend working on our music. Thanks!

Nativity: It seems as though you guys have been keeping a low profile this year. We haven't heard much from you both aside from your release party in Paris back in January and the show you guys did with Alan Braxe in March. From the looks of the videos you guys had a great time at both parties. How did you guys enjoy those performances? Having performed in Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, and Columbia, are there any major differences in the crowds? Some artists tell me people overseas appreciate music differently then us in the States. What have been your favorite cities to perform in so far? Any interesting tour stories?

A. Noblé: Luigi likes to prank me every chance he gets, and so there's a kind of battle between us constantly on tours. For instance, while we were in Paris this last winter, we found out that the light switches were on the outside of the bathroom. I naively took a shower thinking everything was fine and then all of a sudden the lights go out and start flickering on and off. Then about three minutes later Luigi says, from outside the door, “Did you feel that earthquake?.” It's like that. Anyway. We love all of our shows, good crowds, fun people, having a blast, going crazy, what more can you ask for? We don't know which is our favorite, but Zurich was definitely the most expensive. One major difference is that the crowds in Italy are a lot younger since the legal drinking age is 16, and they go out of control the entire night. In America, you're usually playing to crowds of at least 21+ people, who by that age are a little more withholding. So yeah, we've spent most of our free time working on our new EP coming out this summer.

Nativity: Despite keeping a low profile you've been busy crafting your next release, Instant Party EP. How many tracks [Original & Remixes] can we look forward to? Some of your favorite artists are doing Remixes for this release [The Phantom's Revenge (La Valigetta), Strip Steve (Boys Noize), Hijack (Jack Union)], how did you guys link up with these artists? What can we expect from this upcoming release? Who are you guys releasing this EP with?

A. Noblé: There will be a total of four originals as well as three or four remixes. The record comes out on La Valigetta, an Italian imprint. What can we say? Expect a lot of danger, and a lot of... beautiful mayhem. As far as the remixers go, The Phantom's Revenge is a good friend, with great music always, so it's always a pleasure to work with him. Hijack we met through friends at the label, his remix will be a different taste with some funky jackin' house flare. And Strip Steve – what else is there to be said? He's on top of his game, as well as everyone else on BNR. He's definitely one of our most favorite producers and we're lucky to have been able to work with him. If I had one word to describe the EP I would say, in a very cliché way, that it will be very “epic.” Expect huge drums and a lot of chopped samples.

Nativity: A handful of us here at Dank Radio and a number of our readers/listeners create music as well. We're curious as to what DAWs you guys use? Are you still working with FL Studio? Do you favor VSTs over actual Hardware? If you could have any piece of gear what would it be[money not being an issue]?

A. Noblé: We're still in FL Studio, but will likely be making the transition to Logic quite soon. Hardware is way better, but hey, who can afford the good stuff? We use mostly VSTs, only because we are modeling hardware. Massive is a favorite for those really gritty and fat leads or basses. Sylenth1 is pretty awesome if you can tweak it right. I love using Nexus for those progressive build-ups and breakdowns. But we'd love to have a Moog Voyager at our disposal, or maybe a Virus TI.

Nativity: With the upcoming release scheduled for sometime this summer, can we expect more shows/tours? Any upcoming local dates? From the look of your facebook wall people want you back in their town. How can people get ahold of you if they want you in their city/club/event/etc.?

A. Noblé: There are a number of shows coming up in June, the 3rd at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, CA, the 4th at Gone Til Sunrise in LA, and the 18th at La Cita also in LA, as well as some prospective shows in various places around the US, and even some international gigs. You guys will have to stay tuned.

Nativity: We're always hungry for new music and I'm pretty sure you guys are the same. What's been getting the most spins in your iTunes these days? Name three artists[Local/International/Old/New] that we need to check out immediately.

A. Noblé:
1. Siriusmo
2. Russ Chimes
3. Fare Soldi

Nativity: Thanks again for doing the Interview with us. We can't wait for the Instant Party EP to be released. Is there anything else you'd like to share with your fans and our readers?
