Countdown to Lightning in a Bottle: Part 1
Lightning In a Bottle [Do Lab]: Official | Facebook | Twitter | Buy Tickets
With the Do Lab's Lightning in a Bottle festival just a few days away, I would like to take the time to share some of the artists that everyone should check out this weekend at LIB (if you're not going to the festival you should check out the great music anyways!). Thanks to the Do Lab for putting together such an awesome line up. Although some of the names on the flyer didn't hit me at first, I realized that this only meant a whole new world that I've yet to dive into of fresh up and coming artists perfect for my hungry ears and eyes...
Constructing Lightning In A Bottle 2011 [Trailer + Set Times]
Lightning In a Bottle [Do Lab]: Official | Facebook | Twitter | Buy Tickets
As the week slowly progresses into the weekend I'm slowly and surely growing more and more excited to experience my first Lightning In A Bottle. It seems like each day I'm learning more about this amazing festival experience. A few days ago a video/article/interview was shared online that really puts everything into perspective. We get to hear from the people who labor year round to provide this unique experience to everyone who attends. From the amazing artists we're looking forward to covering, to the depth of workshops available, and the plethora of artists participating, I'm honestly not sure how me and [e]ccentric will cover it all, but we shall try. Many thanks to Steven @ The Confluence Group for reaching out to us and inviting us to this new experience. In addition to the "Constructing Lightning In a Bottle" video you can find the set times for the artists performing on the stages as well as the winner of the LIB Mixtape Contest below. We'll be sharing more treats as the week progresses so be sure to check back. If not, we'll see you this weekend!
Manni Dee [Feature Interview + Exclusive Mix]
Manni Dee: Official | Soundcloud
Some people will tell you, "The Internet is over saturated with music." They'll also say "Most of the music online is crap." They might even go into a rant about the good 'ol days or ask you if you've ever been to a record store before. My response is, "Yes I've been to a record store. A mom & pop record store in fact. Actually, we have a great local mom & pop record store here in Long Beach called Fingerprints. You should go check it out and say, 'Hey Rand! Nice store you got here.'" [He's the owner.] What was my point again for this introduction?...[thinking. coffee is kicking in]
Oh! As many of the older guard of music enthusiasts will credit their local record store for their initiation and education on the vast limitless volumes of music ever known to human kind. I on the other hand have Napster+Illegal Sharing Networks+Internet to thank for exposing me to music. Que in our friend Manni Dee from across the Atlantic who's been busy crafting and performing his wonky futuristic beat bass music. He contacted us through Soundcloud and sent us some tracks. We liked it so we played it. We liked it so much we wanted to help him out and do more for him so here we are with the interview below. He's a cool dude. I'm going to buy him a pint when we hang...

After seeing Duck Sauce + Boys Noize + Chromeo + Skrillex + Odd Future perform at Coachella this year, the opportunity to see them again is definitely a treat. Battles - Wall Street [Live Video]
Battles [Warp Records]: Official | Facebook
Absolutely enjoy the Take Away Show series by La Blogotheque. It's one of those "I always wanted to do that!" kind of moments whenever I watch these videos. This installment features Brooklyn NY's Battles from Warp Records. Their upcoming release titled Gloss Drops will be out on June 6/7th [Pre order @ Bleep|Amazon]. Unfortunately I don't understand French so I don't know what the statement below says, but I'm sure it's a brief description of what happened in Paris when they shot the video. Salutations to our readers/listeners in France...

I.T.S. Presents : Beats For A Bench [Feature Interview]
I.T.S. Presents : Beats For A Bench : Event Info | Pre Sale Tickets
Over the past year it has become even more apparent to me that the city of Long Beach is becoming more and more organized in terms of quality music events. Sure you can say I'm biased because I'm involved with a handful of events. I'm also biased because a good number of my friends are creating/nurturing these events. Regardless of my ties to the city it's safe to say we have something to say and more importantly we stand for something. Whether it be for music, fun, family, or the benefit of our fellow human beings.
Recently through various circles of music heads I met a man who also stands for something. To trail it back a couple steps we clicked because we liked the same music. Whenever I meet another being who diggs what I digg then we automatically click. Enter Steven Kerns, who gave me a heads up about this event he was organizing for a fallen comrade. I asked him who was performing and he told me. I asked him where was it going to be held and he said, "Long Beach." That's more than enough info for me right there. I'd go into greater detail, but I'm just going to let him do most of the talking...

JazzReggae Festival 2011 [Documentary + Line Up]
The 25th Annual JazzReggae Festival at UCLA: Official | Tickets
Despite all the parties, clubs, concerts, etc. we tend to frequent, we here at Dank Radio love community events. For the people, by the people. So we're delightfully surprised that we were sent the documentary below celebrating the 25th Annual JazzReggae Festival at UCLA. We had so many questions about how the event came about and who was responsible for organizing it. This was THE perfect way to answer all of our questions. Not to mention give a voice to the people behind the scenes and have them explain what the JazzReggae Fest means to them. If you look closely you can see L from Truth Seekers Radio make an appearance [Shout out to Santana and the whole crew]. Without any further ado here's the documentary along with a few words to summarize the whole thing. Below you will also find a selection of artists that you may or may not know but you should definitely check out.
Electric Daisy Carnival 2011 [Trailer]
Electric Daisy Carnival [Insomniac Events] : Official | Tickets
I remember the first time [e]ccentric showed me the video for the EDC 2010 trailer. I responded with, "Wait. We're going to that? On BOTH days?!". The initial response was something along the lines of "This looks like the most craziest amount of fun possible. What a way to start the summer." This year EDC is back but they've added a third day. I can barely survive Coachella's three day insanity, I hope my body will forgive me for the amount of fun I'll have in Las Vegas. If you have yet to purchase your tickets go get them as soon as possible. I'm certain it will sell out. See you all there!

Identity Festival [Line Up + Tour Dates]
Identity Festival : Official | Facebook | Twitter
It was only a matter of time before all of our favorite producer/DJs hit the road and did a proper tour across America. Sure many of these artists have done various shows with their friends in spotted tours across the States but it was in deed a surprise for me to discover that this has been set in stone. Reminds me of the Warped Tour days. I'm assuming there will be less chuck taylors/drunken brawls/and middle fingers flicked off at the ghetto birds roaming the skies. Nonetheless this tour will be a great time. I'm curious as to what kind of set Chad Hugo (N*E*R*D*) will have. Is he going to be playing the sax + mpc + keys + guitar or will he simply be DJing. I guess we'll have to go to find out...
