Zooey Deschanel [Twitter] + Joseph Gordon-Levitt [Twitter]
Saw this in my facebook feed earlier today and gave it a spin. To my surprise Mr. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can actually hold a tune. I wonder if Zooey is going to do some sort of musical song for the next episode of The New Girl. Read on to hear the original track by Nancy Wilson...
To say that I wasn't looking forward to this mix would be an all out lie. I can't remember how many times I played Laidback Luke's yearmix 2010, but I know it got to a point where I started to memorize mix in and mix out points. The mix below features 36 Mixmash tracks all mixed and mashed together in just under 39 minutes. Be sure to support the artists/label and purchase the songs that you dig. Press play and enjoy...
Eccentric, Fabricated, and I had a special invitation to join in the celebration of SMOG's 5 year anniversary at the Galaxy Theater[now called The Observatory]. We were also able to extend this invitation to a lucky listener of Dank Radio. So before we begin we'd like to thank Drew and everyone at SMOG for their hospitality. Previous to Skream's lower frequency onslaught we were able to catch Kelly Dean and Flinch represent for the whole SMOG crew. DJ Skeet Skeet warmed up the back yard boogie with a fun techy/tech house set. While Thee Mike B set the mood right with dub music leading into smooth liquid drum & bass. I'll let our in-house infrasonics instructor, Fabricated, explain the remainder of the evening. - Nativity

This is a first for us out here in So Cal so I expect this party to be GRAND!

For our UK friends over the pond SBTRKT has just announced a ring of LIVE performance dates towards the end of February [with support from one of my more recent favorite sibling duos Disclosure!!!]. Nero's Welcome Reality has quickly become one of my favorite albums this year. Their debut album is packed with back to back favorites perfect for adventures on the road and/or top flight sessions in your headphones. Frank Ocean has been everywhere lately from features on Watch The Thrown to writing credits on Beyonce's new album its clear the guy has talent and is definitely deserving of all the buzz. Its more than refreshing to see a real video rather than a club/party scene and the artist standing in front of a truck with girls and money floating around him. Good music equals good videos which leads to good times/vibes. If you haven't been bangin the Nostalgia, Ultra album all year please take the time to update/upgrade your music library

I'm certain I can speak on the behalf of the Dank Radio crew and all our friends who attended EDC 2011 that we had one hell of a time. Some of our friends were able to experience that Avicii Bromance music video story line. You might have been thinking to yourself, "Hmmm will this happen to any of us this weekend? Will we have a Fear and Loathing type experiences on the ride through the desert? Are we going to have to make a random scary trip to the city of Baker?!" The wrap up video of EDC 2011 sums it all up. Fun + Happiness + Music + Smiles + Dancing + Beauty + Rides + More Music + Sunset to Sunrise party. I can see through my facebook feed all the people who are getting goosebumps and happy flashbacks of their experiences. It's not even Halloween yet and some of you are already planning your EDC 2012 costumes. You can purchase your tickets on November 1st, 2011 for EDC 2012 in Las Vegas on June 8|9|10 2012.
Haven't seen Fake Blood since Hard Haunted Mansion last year. Can't wait to experience his tracks like Medieval / Mars / Deep Red live and in person at HHM this year. If you were there to witness his set from last year it was absolutely phenomenal. Every track fit perfectly to the temperature of the crowd. Complete roller coaster of fun music as I recall it. Any hoo. Check out his latest mix below. I'm think you'll like it...
The haunting vocal stylings of Florence + The Machine plus the seductively minimal production prowess of The Weeknd combine to form an eerie + sexxxi tune [purchase @ iTunes] . Apologies for the radio rip up above. I just couldn't wait for a legit copy to share with you all. Can't make any promises, but i'll try to update more often this month for all you lovely Libras.
There has been a movement of music, art, and all things expressive growing at the Humming Bird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley. Most of us in the relative LA/OC/LB area never really venture much north of Hollywood for our adventures into music. But lately in the past few months the likes of Daedelus, Free The Robots, DJ Craze, Flinch, LDFD, and more have given us reason to expand our musical horizon into the more northern regions. Tonight we continue this experience with musical performances by Nosaj Thing and TOKiMONSTA. With the continued support from Project Sweatshop + The Service Company we have a pair of tickets to giveaway for tonight's festivities. Please comment this post with your full name and e-mail address to enter to win. Winners will be announced on our Facebook page and an e-mail notification will be sent. You have until 5pm to enter.
For the bass heads out there, if you don't know about the legend that is Excision, let me give you a brief introduction. This Canadian bass producer is mainly known for his aggressive, hip hop and metal influenced dubstep as well as his extremely technical production technique that rivals many producers out there right now. He runs Rottun Records, a label that I've been following for a while now that has launched names like Datsik and Downlink into the upper ranks of the current dubstep scene.
One of the things Excision is infamous for are his Shambhala mixes. The first one I ever heard was his mix from last year. His Shambhala mix from last year was notorious for the insane amount of dubplates that did not see the light of day until this past year, like Downlink's once-elusive and robotic sounding "Factory", and those dubplates that still haven't seen the light of day as of yet, like Excision's...awkward sounding remix of Insideinfo's "Awkward" (which makes an appearance on this mix as well!). You're in for a treat with this mix because he brings many tracks that have been brought to the mainstream, such as Skrillex and Nero's remix of Nero's "Promises" and The Others and Trolley Snatcha's "Break Your Neck", while dropping the dubplates and unreleased remixes of huge tracks.
I've always wondered how he would present this song live. It's one of those special tunes that I like to think to myself, "Yeah I remember when I told you about this track and you didn't get it. Now you're all about it. It's all good though." It's like the lyrics, "Look I found her. Damn!" I guess that's how you feel when you find a song/artist/album/performance/dj/producer and you look around you and know one knows what you're talking about. Eventually/slowly/surely the people around you catch on and all they can say is, "Damn!". I've missed every single one of his performances in LA due to financial constraints [poor money management truthfully]. [Yeah I missed his surprise DJ set at Low End Theory.] Any hoo, I'm glad that everyone around me is starting to discover his music. Good music shouldn't be hoarded selfishly. It should be shared with everyone, even those who aren't quick to listen openly. When they do eventually listen, just remember to try not to tell them, "I told you so."
Watching this video still gives me goosebumps and takes me back to that one crazy fun weekend in Las Vegas. Yes I was there. I was there all three nights/early mornings. I hope you were too. And if you weren't, this song and music video should be reason enough for you to experience EDC next year and/or Tiƫsto in concert this year. You're in luck because he's swinging by Los Angeles in a couple weeks [Apologies to the International readers. We'll post intl tour dates if and when we're notified].
We've been following Porter Robinson for quite a while. Ever since I saw this random teenage musical maestro break through the Beatport charts with Say My Name I knew he was someone to keep an eye on. Some said he was just lucky and it was just one track. But I kept paying attention and from the looks of it I wasn't the only one. He's gone from small regional tours, to playing at Beyond Wonderland, featured on DJ TechTools, releasing his latest selection with Skrillex's new label OWSLA, and now he's opening up for Tiƫsto across the nation. Not bad for someone who's not even legal enough to purchase alcohol [or rent a motor vehicle].
If you like what you hear please show your support by purchasing the tracks or checking him out on tour. [I suggest you listen/purchase the Kill The Noise Remix of Spitfire(Shout out to Jake!)] There's also a contest below where you can win a free Traktor S4 unit....
With only a few days left until this weekends festivities one can only wait in anticipation to journey back down into the rabbit hole. We had some of the best experiences thus far this year at Beyond Wonderland and EDC Las Vegas, we are sure this weekend will continue the level of fun/music/excitement we've experienced. If you have yet to get your tickets be sure to purchase them as soon as possible...
Such an amazing mix by SBTRKT. As some of our regular more frequent supporters of Dank Radio know, we've been fans of his music for quite some time, and have had the pleasure of seeing him spin at last years Coachella. He was the first person that I've ever seen incorporate a James Blake tune into a live dance setting. [No he didn't play CMYK. He playing something else.] Any hoo. A man with no boundaries that keeps pushing the limits with groove and performance, this mix for the lovely Mary Anne Hobbs does not disappoint. [Favorite tracks: Little Dragon - Crystalfilm | Gold Panda - Marriage | Disclosure - Just Your Type]
Had the opportunity to check out Mumbai Science in an intimate venue [The Roxy] last month[?]. These two scientist have been cooking up their own vibe of fun Techno tracks that have been included in sets from many of our favorite DJs. Boys Noize played three Mumbai Science tracks during his sunrise set at EDC Las Vegas this past June. If you have a chance to check them out I highly suggest you do so. As the Mumbai Science guys would tell you, their shows are definitely #herb.
Let's just say I kept on pressing play after I first heard this track. I wish there was some kind of loop feature on Youtube for videos you want to enjoy on a continuous repeat. I'm really diggin' the organic nature of this track. The slight overdrive of the guitar, the organ's church type feel, right down to the counter melodies and simplicity of the track strike a real chord with me. It's what I get for countless years of being surrounded by choral music I suppose. The video is quite a fun trip as well. The fluidity of the camera angles complement the songs simple nature. Can't wait for the upcoming release AUDIO, VIDEO, DISCO on October 24th.
It was only a matter of time until Kaskade presented us with his very own BBC Radio OneEssential Mix [AIRED SEPTEMBER 9, 2011]. Till this day I still have his Coachella 2010 Mix in regular rotation. Having experienced that set first hand gives that mix a very special place in my collection. Now that I'm listening to his current Essential Mix I know for sure this too will leave a permanent mark on music memory bank. To take things up a notch Ryan has even uploaded it onto his Soundcloud for complete unaltered listening. Enjoy!
I really love what Resident Advisor is doing with their feature series surrounding important international cities which center around a facet of electronic music. Previous videos cover cities such as Detroit as well as Bristol. The video above covers what most say is the central hub of Techno. For a more detailed brief read below...

Had an opportunity to catch up with my good friend/super sensei/long time Dank Radio supporter Jonathan Wandag. He's been busy traveling the universe creating the perfect score for your personal scores. I was able to make contact with him briefly to see what he and his fellow Plutonian mate, Amalia Miller, have been busy creating musically. We discuss how they were drawn to music, how they create their music, and what the symbolism of Pluto and The 9th have to do with each other. I may be slightly biased being that they are my friends, but this has been one of the funnest/funniest/entertaining/enlightening interviews I've ever conducted.
Nativity: First off thank you for doing this interview with us. I know it's crunch time the week of the big event and we really appreciate you taking time from your collective band readiness sessions to answer these questions. Before we get into the main course let's begin with you two introducing yourselves and what you do for the band and how the group came to be.
Jonathan: First off Nativity, I'd just like to say that I'm very happy to be in cahoots with you again, whether it be on the radio, musically, social networkingly, or sausagely. It's all grand and beefy... which means, it's magtastic.
Now to answer your questions: I, Jonathan, write music, sing, play keys and orchestra, and shake my ass. Amalia does the exact same thing along with sing E's an octave above the highest E in the treble clef, make animal noises, and show off that massive crater of a dimple on her face.
Amalia: But really, we were journeying across the solar system and our spaceships bumped into each other somewhere around Mars and... never mind. Long story short, Jonathan and I met at UCLA in 2000 and collaborated once every few years on music, from orchestral overtures to silly covers. We even performed in the SF BART stations. After some poor looking dude gave us a $10, we knew we had to get serious.
Jonathan: Yeah, I mean that paid for our dinner. Why not make a real band and get rich?

As summer slowly comes to a close we reflect on all the crazy random good times that occurred over the past couple months. If you've been following our Dank Radio shows you've seen our progression through varying expressions of Summer tunes. You'll find Jakwob's latest mix a great addition to the already existing string of Dank Radio shows. He's shared his love with Hip Hop in the past and in this mix he doesn't hold back. We patiently wait for his new creations and his upcoming set at Nocturnal Wonderland.

I had goosebumps when I was watching the video above. I honestly hope that we will be able to witness this experience first hand with all of our five senses. If you really want to break the fourth wall I highly suggest you purchase the album ISAM [Purchase @ Ninja Tune | Amon Tobin | iTunes] and/or go to one of his performances.
The Creators Project have made a short documentary covering the release of ISAM, the simultaneous art exhibition 'Control Over Nature' and the on going ISAM live show.
The film crew flew out to London for a rare and in depth video interview with Amon at the Crypt gallery where the exhibition debuted. They also interviewed collaborating artist Tessa Farmer about her work on the project along with several contributors - Amon Tobin
"Yes! It's really him! Carl Cox joins us on the show this week, playing cuts and remixes from his brand new album - All Roads Lead To The Dancefloor [Purchase here], in an exclusive mix over four CDJ-2000s and the DJM-2000. This really is special.
Carl tells Dan Tait about the concept behind the album and how it comes on a unique USB key, packed with additional content." - via DJsounds

If you want to enjoy something fun and upbeat while you soak in the warm vibrations of the Sun then check out Rubblebucket's Omega La La. Here's the Video for their latest single L'Homme.
