I can't help but listen to ska music whenever I have a day off. It's like a natural energetic pick it up pick it up kind of energy. I don't think I ever got a chance to see Save Ferris with it's original line up, but later down the road I did have a chance to play on the same bill with their second evolution Starpool, which coincidentally is named after Starpool Records which put out Save Ferris' first album "Introducing Save Ferris". I'll be posting a skanky tune here and there as the summer progresses.

No Doubt is one of those iconic So Cal bands that everyone grows up listening to. For us here in Long Beach it was Sublime, Snoop, Warren G. In Orange County there was No Doubt, Suburban Legends, and a whole slew of other acts that emerged from the Ska community that later grew into their own in many different shapes and sounds. Last year we heard news of No Doubt FINALLY getting back into the studio to work on their next album. The video above [First in a series of webisodes] gives us a brief look into their studio sessions as we patiently wait for the September 25, 2012 release of their sixth studio album.

Ska Parade 20th Anniversary Tour [Tour Dates]

Ska music played an important part of my upbringing during my formative High School years. I wasn't around when the 3rd Wave initially hit but it's influence was still prominent in the early 2000s. Days of barre chords and brass horns helped to brighten up dreadful days at school. The first Ska comp I picked up at a record store was Step On It: The Best of The Ska Parade Radio Show and the only reason why I bought it was because Sublime was on it. It introduced me to the likes of The Voodoo Glow Skulls, Ocean 11, and The Skeletones. Later I found out the host of the show, Tazy Phyllipz, was the guy who put in motion Sublime's path onto Kroq and national exposure. I contacted Tazy to see if we could set up an interview but just as I thought, he's a busy man. No worries. Many thanks to Tazy for always providing the best in Ska music and for continuously pushing the advancement of Ska music.
