Having experienced an amazing set by Brodinski at Dance Right @ La Cita a couple weeks ago I was left wanting more four on the floor. The dance floor was filled to near capacity. It's attendees jacked their bodies under the reflective low level ceiling. Hands were in the air and the people were happily hounding each time their favorite techno track was sound slammed. Sweaty bodies bounced back and forth to their own beat of the drum. There was no lifted stage w/ a huge LED display. There were no lazers shooting kriss kross that made your eyes jump jump. The closest thing to a go-go dancer were the pretty females salsa dancing on the semi elevated side stage. It was a proper sweaty grimey dancey chicago and/or detroit dance floor. We submitted our selves to the music and you will do the same...

What a wonderful thing, the internet. I was in the comfort of my own home in my own room, dry and away from all matter of weather's ailments enjoying the amazing Coachella 2012 Weekend 1 Day 1 stream off of Youtube [Stream Coachella LIVE off of youtube here]. I decided to spend the day checking out artists that I was iffy about. You know, that way I can spend more time next weekend when we're actually there wilding out to the acts I really want to see. I thought, "Hmm I really liked Arctic Monkey's first album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. I used to stream that album all the time back in college. I'll give them a shot." That shot was a bulls eye. High energy. Spot on performance. No errors in musicianship. Great stage presence. Commanding presence. The whole shabang. I was in the midst of cleaning up my room and I stopped dead in my tracks. So much so I just planted myself comfortably in front of my laptop and studio monitors. Press play and see why...

As the days and hours go by and all of the lucky Coachella goers wait in anticipation they begin to mentally map out which artists they're going to see. One act that I'm going to try my hardest not to miss will be SBTRKT. Having witnessed SBTRKT perform in two different versions and equally enjoying both incarnations, I really look forward to their proper live performance. He performed in the Dome last year w/ Sam Xl/Pure Filth's sound system and he got everyone in the food court area dancing around with their garlic fries. This was in the middle of the day and we all agreed at that point that it would be in no time at all that he would be performing in one of the gobi + mohave + sahara tents this year. Now that we have the full line up for this years Coachella, the fun activity of learning about each performer begins. There are a little over 120 artists this year and a little under 90 something days until the festivities begin in Indio, California. I'd like to think I'm familiar with about a third of the line up so this will not only help me explore new musical realms, but it'll help you get familiar as well.
